The highest-grossing anime film ever made is skipping the usual long wait between theaters and streaming. Crunchyroll will begin streaming Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle I worldwide on July 28 at 8:00 a.m. PT (11:00 p.m. PHT), excluding Japan and Mainland China, a relatively quick turnaround for a film still fresh off a genuine awards run.
What earned the awards attention
Infinity Castle I picked up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture - Animated, a Producers Guild of America nomination for Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures, and a spot on the BAFTA longlist for Best Animated Film, on top of setting the all-time box office record for an anime film. That's an unusually strong prestige run for what's also, structurally, the first part of a three-film send-off.
What the film actually covers
Infinity Castle I is the first of a three-part trilogy that closes out the Demon Slayer franchise for good, following Tanjiro Kamado and the Demon Slayer Corps into the demons' stronghold for the series' climactic battle. Wide language support at launch
The film arrives with Japanese audio and English subtitles, plus dubs in English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Castilian Spanish, Catalan, Russian, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Thai and Polish, with subtitles extending further to Arabic, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Melayu among others. In select territories including North America, the film is also available to buy digitally the same day through the Apple TV app, Prime Video, Google Play, YouTube and Fandango, with pre-orders already open on select platforms.
The real question now is pacing. This first film sets the precedent for how quickly Infinity Castle II and III reach Crunchyroll once their own theatrical runs wrap, and that turnaround is worth watching more than the July 28 date itself.
