Aleks Le walked onto the Peacock Theater stage at Anime Expo 2026 without the crowd knowing why, and then confirmed Solo Leveling was getting a movie. The voice of Sung Jinwoo in the English dub delivered Crunchyroll's biggest surprise of its July 3 showcase: Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, a theatrical anime film now in production that continues the story directly after Season 2.

The Solo Leveling film

A-1 Pictures, the studio behind the TV series and known for Sword Art Online, is animating the film, co-produced by Aniplex, Netmarble, D&C MEDIA, Kakao Piccoma and Crunchyroll. A teaser key visual and concept video played at the event, but no release date or plot details beyond the direct-sequel premise have been shared yet.

Ghost of Tsushima Legends gets its first look

The showcase also revealed the first character visuals for Ghost of Tsushima Legends, the anime adaptation Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music and PlayStation Productions announced last year, following one of the last surviving samurai defending Tsushima against the Mongol Empire. Takanobu Mizuno directs, with Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) co-writing and handling story composition alongside Satoshi Maejima, Takashi Okazaki on character designs and KAMIKAZE DOUGA producing animation. No premiere date is set yet.

Everything else from the showcase

Kagurabachi is confirmed for Crunchyroll in 2027, with a first look at Chihiro Rokuhira's provisional character design sheet shown at the event. The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 is also heading to the platform in 2027 with a new teaser. Dengeki Daisy and Magical Buffs both got world premiere trailers for 2027 releases, The Vermilion Mask is set for October 2026, and Overgeared arrives later this year.

The one moment nobody saw coming: a video message from Dave Grohl confirmed Nirvana's "Breed" as the opening theme for The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All, launching early 2027. That's a strange enough pairing that it might end up being the showcase's most-talked-about reveal, ahead of even the Solo Leveling news.
